For the 40th anniversary of the Karl H. Ditze Foundation in 2019, I designed an invitation card and program for the numerous guests from the Hamburg cultural, political, and entrepreneurial industries. Within a few years, Karl H. Ditze transformed a small ink pen factory into one of the world's most successful corporate groups, rotring. From the mid-1950s, generations of people learned and practiced their craft with the help of the "rapidograph," the most famous writing instrument from rotring. Karl H. Ditze passed away in 1993 during a cruise to Antarctica aboard the "Frontier Spirit," his favorite pastime being sailing. Following his death, Karl H. Ditze bequeathed his entire fortune to his foundation, which focuses on promoting commerce, art, culture, charity, and applied sciences. To honor him in a special way, I developed a design system that uses the flag alphabet used in shipping to convey the message of the foundation's 40th anniversary while honoring both the foundation and its founder and benefactor.
